Earthquake Response and Appeal for Donations

As per 04th May 2015, 10:00AM, 7276 persons died and 14.362 were injured in the strongest earthquake in the last 80 years that took place on 25th April 2015. 600.000 families lost their houses and need emergency shelter. 580 schools are destroyed. Only 70.000 tents could be distributed at this time. Especially in the rural areas of the hilly districts without road access many villages did not receive any help and the situation is dramatic. AWO International started immediate response and is in process of a huge response program in coordination with national NGO partners who have structures in the affected areas.

To serve people in need in a best way and to avoid duplication Regional Office Team of AWO International is taking part in various coordination meetings with Nepal Government, NGO partners, thematic relief clusters, German Embassy, other INGOs and other “Aktion Deutschland Hilft – ADH” (German Relief Coalition) partners in Nepal. Relief operations on the ground were started on 1st May 2015. As a registered INGO in Nepal since 2009 AWO International is entitled for direct utilization of incoming funds and donations.

Volunteers & Organizations seeking assistance: We are overwhelmed about the huge numbers of offers to help directly. Unfortunately we have limited personnel capacities and we are working from early morning till late night to organize emergency relief with our national partners. Please understand that for that reason we are unable to clear private sending’s of blankets and other needy goods at the customs, coordinate the purchases and transports of other initiatives and to organize the placement of volunteers. The best way to help us is to support our relief initiatives by donations.

Media: Please contact our focal person:

Thank you!!
